Having high triglycerides is not something that we want for our long term health, and finding the reasons why our triglycerides might be higher is something of importance. The long term consequences of high triglycerides are heart attack, stroke, and heart disease therefore it’s important that we manage them appropriately.
If you are someone with high triglycerides, low HDL and type 2 diabetes then you are a potential candidate for one of our trials and we would love to talk with you more. Reach out to us at THIS LINK and we will be in touch asap!
To start, the normal level for triglycerides is anything below 150. If you have anything above 200, then this is considered high and should be managed by a health care provider. If you get labs done through anyone other than your primary care physician then you should let them know these values and they can help you accordingly.
You typically will not have any symptoms when your triglycerides are high so it might not seem like something of importance but it most certainly is. Some causes of high triglycerides are if you have poorly controlled diabetes, smoking, excess alcohol, poor diet and exercise, and kidney disease.
Some other reasons that you might have high triglycerides are due to medications that you are taking for other reasons. Those include, but are not limited to: birth control, tamoxifen, Metoprolol (all beta blocker medicaations), steroids (Prednisone for example), and diuretics. If you are taking one of these medications, then you want to make sure that you have had your triglycerides checked to make sure they are within normal limits.
If you are someone that is struggling with your diabetes, and high triglycerides then let us know and we can help place you into one of our studies to help you manage this more appropriately. Again, here is the link to do so!
